Procedures and Policies (2)

Emergency Contact
In case of an emergency, the parents or guardians will be called immediately. If neither parent can be reached, numbers listed on the emergency card will be used. We will continue to attempt to contact the parents. It is imperative that the numbers on the emergency medical form be kept current. If any of the numbers change, please notify the office immediately.

Conferences
In the fall there will be informal parent-teacher conferences for each child. In lieu of a spring conference, a more thorough written evaluation will be done for each of the students in these classes. However, all parents are encouraged to arrange additional conferences with the teacher and/or director when they deem necessary.

Monthly Newsletter & Calendar
A newsletter will be sent home toward the end of each month highlighting what the children have learned, as well as classroom activities and school news. Along with the newsletter will be a calendar for the upcoming month. Items such as field trips, special activities, holiday programs, days off and birthdays will be indicated on it. It is important that you read the newsletters and review the calendar so that your child does not miss out on anything.

Food and Snacks

  • We have a snack time during each class. Children will need to bring a nutritious snack and small drink to school with them every day.
  • We welcome birthday parties for each child during their snack time. Any birthday treats should be in small portions, please. All the children with summer birthdays will celebrate on one day towards the beginning or end of the school year.

Parental Involvement
We have found that children love to have their parents help. An open-door policy is maintained and we strongly encourage parents to volunteer in their child’s class. Teachers can always use an extra hand in the classroom, or in cutting out materials at home, and will be eager to put you to work. The teachers will let you know of any special needs in advance.

For the safety of all our children, we need to know who is in the building at all times. Please remember to sign in and out at the office when you are at school.

Weather & Holidays
We generally follow the Colonial School District calendar for holiday closings and these will be listed on your monthly calendars. For weather related closings, please check our website: www.heritagepreschool.org or tune into WILM (1450 AM), WDEL (1150 AM), and WSTW (93.7 FM) radio or their websites: www.wdel.com or www.wstw.com for closing information. There will be no preschool make-up days for closings.

Clothing
Children should be clothed simply in comfortable, washable clothing and non-skid shoes, especially on gym day. Heavy hiking boots are not permitted. Classes spend some time outside every day, weather permitting. Please mark all clothing with your child’s name, as we cannot be responsible for lost or damaged clothing. Boots, hats, and mittens are needed for winter months, since we go outside every day except for rainy days and extremely cold temperatures.
